Alta in a nutshell
We are a creative multidisciplinary team of experienced consultants with a broad professional background, leading in our fields of expertise.
Alta is a consulting company, established in 2001, specializing in land-use strategy and planning along with environmental assessments, with public and stakeholder consultation. This includes work on municipal planning, master planning and site planning, the National Planning Strategy, environmental impact assessment (EIA), strategic environmental assessments (SEA) and numerous related consultation projects. We also assist in regional and strategic economic development planning (tourism sector included), the planning of National Parks in Iceland and protected areas.
Alta uses advanced spatial analysis (Geographic Information Systems) as a tool to visualize, analyze, and interpret data.

Our projects are interdisciplinary and diverse and our clients range from municipalities, ministries, governmental agencies and private companies.

Spatial planning and the environment play a key role in the economic and social development of a community.
Alta offers consulting services at all planning levels, in regional and strategic economic development planning (tourism sector included), the planning of national parks in Iceland and protected areas, along with strategic environmental assessments (SEA) and environmental impact assessment (EIA).

Alta offers help in setting a strategy, based on a shared vision, and making plans to pursue that strategy.
Constructive public and stakeholder consultation and engagement is thread into all our projects and a key factor in all our projects.
SPATIAL ANALYSIS
GIS (geographic information system) is a tool for advanced spatial analysis to visualize, analyze, and interpret data to understand the world around us. Alta both uses GIS and offers help to others in the field.

Sustainability at Alta
Sustainability is an important factor in all of our projects. We also constantly strive to lower the environmental impact of our everyday operations.
Alta has signed the UN Global Compact - The UN corporate initiative for a sustainable world. This strategic policy initiative is for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. With over 8700 corporate participants and other stakeholders from over 130 countries, it is the largest voluntary corporate responsibility initiative in the world. We at Alta were the third company in Iceland to sign the UN Global Compact, consistent with Alta’s emphasis on sustainability, since it was founded in 2001, see more information on UN Global Compact here.
